NAPW Indianapolis Local Chapter Met for Gala Event with Indys Most Powerful Women in Business

Garden City, NY (PRWEB) November 19, 2011

The Indianapolis NAPW Chapter met for a gala networking event at the Stepping Out in Style, Dress for Success Indy event at the J.W. Marriott. The event was kicked off with a cocktail hour followed by speakers and a celebrity fashion show. NAPW members sponsored three NAPW tables and several of members companies sponsored a table as well. Thanks were extended to Sally Esbaum for coordinating the event and to all for attending!

Attendees Included Sally J. Esbaum, Jamie Van Deusen, Dee Wills, Suzanne Canull & guest, Cheryl Herzog, Jennifer McNett and Danuta Panich at Table 1; Janis Hartman, Christina Sedberry, Michele Crohn and Guest, Tammie Fish, Nita Conaway, Mary Ann Hack, Bridget McDaniel and Guest, Mercedes Soria and Guest and Table 2; Vickie Proksch and Creative Labs staff and guests at Table 3.

The Indianapolis Chapter of Dress for Success hosted their annual Stepping Out In Style fashion show in September at the JW Marriott in Downtown Indianapolis. Now in its ninth year, the popular fundraising event is attracting upwards of 900 patrons, mostly women, and boasts a guest list including some of the city's most powerful women in business. In addition, among this year's attendees was Joi Gordon, CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide, who ironically was missing a fundraiser at her New York home in order to be in Indianapolis.

Presented by PNC Bank, this year's Stepping Out In Style event included the incredibly popular "Diamond Dig" presented by Aronstam Fine Jewelers and a "Match Challenge" led by the charismatic Denny Sponsel of RJE Business Interiors that generated more than $ 50,000 for the cause. The cause itself, to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women, is reason enough to bring these women of influence back year after year and they appear to be bringing their friends and colleagues with them. It could be the fashions presented on stage by Murph Damron from several local boutiques like 8fifteen, Lesley Jane Inc. or The Secret Ingredient. More than likely, however, it's probably the models that came to support including Jennifer Browning Holmes, Sonia Chen, Jody DeFord, Anita DuBois, Jodi Hatcher, Melina Kennedy, Mary Leffler, Anna Kimble-Roberson, Bev Miller, Naie Maurer, Jennifer Satterfield Siegel, Sara Snow, B. Kaye Walter and Kitty Wooley-Tharte. Another motivator in developing such a loyal fundraiser following has to be the Indianapolis Fire Department model escorts.

The chapter extended invitations to members to next months networking meeting at Pipers Caf

Paraliminal Pathways Launches Powerful Meditation/Affirmation CD Set: 2 Voices, 2 Sets of Suggestions, 2 Times the Results

Albuquerque, NM (PRWEB) September 6, 2007

Paraliminal Pathways, a newly-founded women-run hypnosis CD recording company, is pleased to announce the launch of its first paraliminal CD set: Pathway to Prosperity. The set, which retails for $ 29.95, contains two CDs, one hypnotic paraliminal meditation session and one affirmations-based CD, both focused on implementing the Law of Attraction to create abundance (in the areas of love, friendship, satisfaction and gratitude as well as wealth) in one's life. Following on its heels, Paraliminal Pathways will release Pathway to Self Esteem and Pathway to Creativity. The company plans to release a total of 12 CD sets within the next two years. They will also create custom-made CDs -- by request and based on interviews -- to address the specific needs of some consumers.

Says Joan Schweighardt, the partner overseeing marketing, "Paraliminals are the next generation in effective self-hypnosis techniques. Basically, whereas traditional hypnosis CDs feature one voice providing one set of hypnotic suggestions, paraliminals feature two different sets of hypnotic suggestions (or patters), generally both recorded by the same hypnotherapist, so that one plays in each ear of one's headset. Here at Paraliminal Pathways, we've taken the paraliminal concept one step further: Not only do we have two hypnotic patters, but each is recorded by a different hypnotherapist, and both are braided together with music created specifically for each individual CD. The effect is incredible. The conscious mind simply can't hold on to the two different voices and different patters simultaneously. And so it drifts, and in so doing, it allows the subconscious mind, the one that is susceptible to suggestions, to come forward."

In addition to their work as hypnotherapists, L'aura Bodmer and Julie Mars, the two recording partners at Paraliminal Pathways, bring many years of related experience to their efforts. L'aura, who was born in Honolulu, is a Master Practitioner of ancient Hawaiian Huna healing techniques. In addition to a successful healing practice, she has given Huna workshops across the country. Julie, who is a life-long student of symbolism, Jungian dream analysis, and the esoteric interpretation of Tarot, is a certified yoga instructor, a creativity coach, a college writing teacher, and an award-winning author. (Her second book, a memoir called A MONTH OF SUNDAYS: SEARCHING FOR THE SPIRIT AND MY SISTER, was a Barnes & Noble "Discover Great New Writers" selection and was featured in bookstores across the country. Her third book, a novel called ANYBODY ANY MINUTE, will be published by St. Martin's in Spring, 2008.)

Adds Joan Schweighardt, "L'aura and Julie pour heart and soul into their work, ensuring that Paraliminal Pathways CDs offer a complex and effective self-hypnosis experience. Each CD is carefully prepared -- incorporating suggestions in both linear and metaphoric form -- with great respect for listeners and a sincere determination to create the pathway that leads to choice, freedom, and self-discovery. You can't help but feel loved and pampered listening their voices; the CDs really work!"

Arnold Bodmer, L'aura's husband and a highly respected musician who has performed with jazz, r&b, rock & roll and country bands around the world, has been commissioned by Paraliminal Pathways to create the music for each individual CD. His musical and composition mastery, combined with his knowledge (and practice) of Zen and Buddhism, render him the perfect candidate for the job. The feedback he has received to date on his paraliminal CD musical compositions has inspired him to create a series of instrumental CDs that can be used by other hypnotherapists or healthcare workers, as inspirational background music in their private practices, or simply for general consumer relaxation and enjoyment. His CDs will be available for purchase in the near future on the Paraliminal Pathways website, at http://www.paralminalpathways.org.

Microsoft Researcher to Receive ACM Award for Powerful New Tools to Solve Today's Computational Problems

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 26, 2011

The ACM Special Interest Group on Algorithms and Computation Theory (SIGACT) http://sigact.acm.org will present its 2011 Knuth Prize to Ravi Kannan of Microsoft Research Labs India for developing influential algorithmic techniques aimed at solving long-standing computational problems. Kannans contributions address the challenges of computation with massive data that characterize todays information-driven environment. His foundational work spans many areas of theoretical computer science including lattices and their applications, geometric algorithms, machine learning, and computational linear algebra. The Knuth Prize, named in honor of Donald Knuth of Stanford University who has been called the "father" of the analysis of algorithms, will be presented at the ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing (STOC), held as part of the Federated Computing Research Conference (FCRC), June 7, 2011, in San Jose, CA. Kannan will give the Knuth Prize Lecture to an FCRC plenary audience.

Much of Kannans work has focused on efficient algorithms for mathematical and geometric problems in computer science. One of his research papers, published in 1990, has been called by some one of the most remarkable algorithmic achievements ever. It addresses the issue of easy formulas for volumes of simple three-dimensional objects like spheres and cubes. The paper, written with Martin Dyer of the University of Leeds and Alan Frieze of Carnegie Mellon University, shows how to efficiently produce estimates of the volumes of arbitrary high-dimensional convex sets. The method they developed uses random walks to do geometric sampling, a technique now central to the theory of algorithms. The winner of the Fulkerson Prize in Discrete Mathematics in 1991, this paper also introduced the notion of geometric isoperimetry, a measure of an area marked by boundaries, to theoretical computer science.

In his breakthrough 1991 paper, Kannan tackled the Frobenius problem, which seeks to find the largest number that cannot arise from a combination of certain denominations. For example, it is not possible to make seven dollars from a combination of three and five dollar bills, but every amount eight and higher is possible. Kannans paper gave the first efficient algorithm for finding this Frobenius number. This algorithm also led to important developments in integer programming and quantifier elimination.

Kannan was also cited for his research on algorithms for finding low-rank approximations to matrices, applicable to principal component analysis, which was conducted with Frieze and Santosh Vempala, then of Carnegie Mellon University. In a 1999 paper with Frieze, Kannan introduced the Weak Regularity Lemma, which has become an important new combinatorial tool in areas including sublinear algorithms, streaming algorithms, and graph limits.

A principal Researcher at Microsoft Research India, Kannan leads the algorithms research group. He is the also the first adjunct faculty of Computer Science and Automation at the Indian Institute of Science. Before joining Microsoft, he was a professor of computer science and of applied mathematics at Yale University. He previously taught at Carnegie Mellon University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

A graduate with a B. Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, Kannan earned a Ph.D. at Cornell University.

The Knuth Prize is given every 18 months by ACM SIGACT and the IEEE Technical Committee on the Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science and includes a $ 5,000 award.
